Making rehabilitation, return to work and WorkCover understandable
UnitingCare is a complex organisation – based in Queensland and the Northern Territory, they provide aged care, disability support and health and community services with a focus on ‘life in all its fullness’.
The health and safety team were launching new Injury Management education materials, and they wanted to step away from the traditional, compliance-focused documentation that is rife in health and safety. The brief was for engaging materials that got the message across at different levels (employees and managers), while not colouring too far outside the lines of compliance.
Plain English for a workforce with vastly different backgrounds and education levels
Of course, plain English was the answer here – making medical and health jargon simple, readable and actionable. We rewrote several pieces of content – also focusing on the audience, which was not a ‘one size fits all’ solution.
The result? Documents that met the corporate tone of voice guidelines, incorporated key messaging and that were a pleasure to read. The UnitingCare team had this to say:
“I commend you on your patience in accommodating our multiple revisions. Very grateful and I think we’ve managed to make something really user-friendly!”
